For those of you who may have guessed what i've been up to from my last Journal, yes, I have finally decided to break my long hiatus from Feral Heart and return with what will be (if completed) my largest project to date: The Lord of the Rings Map Pack.
Ever since I started making maps, Middle Earth was always on my mind. But a few things stood in my way, the main of which being the scale of it all. To make an expansive and impressive world as we all imagine when thinking about the Lord of the Rings would be near impossible to do without an ample amount of time and effort put into it. So I stayed away, thinking that it would, in the end, result in just being a waste of time. But no longer! I've finally decided to buckle down and try my hand at this.
That being said, my first projections for this map pack would be approximately 16 maps, with possibly more if I decide to expand on them.
That is twice as many maps as my Verto Animus map pack, and though that does seem daunting, I am determined to try regardless.
Now, before we get into what you can expect to see in this pack, I would like to remind everyone to please not continuously ask me about when it's going to be done. Verto Animus took me two months to finish, and that was half the size of this project, not to mention I have school and other things to work on so please don't haggle! This is a personal project for me just as much as it is for everyone who loves Middle Earth as much as I do. I will however make a promise to update you guys periodically on my progress, so fear not!
In case you're wondering, I have actually started already, and I've gotten four maps into stage one (heightmap, terrain, sky, weather, music). I intend to do this for all of them before adding in the actual objects and portals in hopes of possibly speeding up the process. You can expect to see actual screenshots of these maps once the objects have all been added in, but until then, refer to this journal to check up on my progress.
1. The Shire (stage one) Sunday, November 3rd
"In his heart, Frodo's still in love with the Shire. The woods, the fields...little rivers...I'm old Gandalf. I know I don't look it, but I'm beginning to feel it. I feel..stretched. Like butter, scrapped over too much bread. I need a holiday, a very long holiday. And I don't expect I shall return...in fact I mean not to."
2. Weathertop (stage one) Sunday, November 3rd
"This was once the great watchtower of Amon Sul...."
3. Rivendale (stage one) Sunday, November 3rd
"I meant to go back...visit Mirkwood....see the Lonely Mountain again...but age it seems, has finally caught up with me."
"All my life, I always dreamed that I was with you, off on one of your adventures...my own adventure turned out to be quite different...."

4a. Isengard (stage one) Wednesday, November 20th

6. The Mines of Moria (stage one) Friday, November 8th
"I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."
"So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.There are other forces in this world Frodo besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring...in which case you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

10. Fangorn (stage one) Tuesday, December 3rd
"Through fire, and water, on the highest tower of the lowest peak I fought the Balrock of Morgoth. Until at last I struck down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside. Darkness took me. And I past out of though and time...stars wheeled overhead, and every day was as long as a life age of the earth. But it was not the end. I felt life, in me again. I have been sent back, until my task is done..."

So there you go! Something to look forwards to in the distant future. What map are you looking forwards to exploring the most? Is there anything i've forgotten that you're dying to see?
If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask.
Looking to help out? If you know about any good, high quality texture packs or meshes, let me know about it. Or if you're an /experienced/ map maker and would like to Beta Test, leave a comment with a list of your credentials in map making. (Feel free to link me to maps you've made in the past)
"Where is the horse and the rider, where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like wind on the mountain, like rain in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West, into shadow. How did it come to this?"
- King Theoden
